Unpacking The English Kit
The English Kit is a Victorian practice focused entirely on VCE and senior-secondary English for Year 9–12 students. We're here to help every student discover what they are capable of when they are given the right tools, the right guidance and, of course, the right inspiration.
Why we started
At The English Kit, we focus on developing repeatable, high-scoring writing methods that can be applied to any exam question or prompt. We adopt a practical, structured approach — breaking down the enigmatic and subjective elements so often associated with VCE English, and helping students arrive exam-ready come November.
Our tutors are highly specialised, with years of experience teaching English, and we're all deeply passionate about what we do. That's because we all appreciate that we're teaching more than how to systematically approach and master the exam — we're helping students build communication and writing skills for the future in an increasingly AI-dominated world.
What we believe
- Specialisation beats breadth. A tutor who only teaches English knows the study design, the texts and the assessors' expectations cold.
- Feedback is the lesson. Marks without comments don't change anything. Every piece of work comes back annotated.
- Structure creates confidence. A clear plan, mapped to your school's schedule, so students always know what's next.
- Clarity is the skill. The best writing makes difficult ideas read simply — we coach students to write clearly, not to fill space.
Meet the founder
Kit Mun Lee
Founder & Head Tutor — The English Kit
My relationship with English began long before I became a teacher.
When I was 10 years old and preparing for selective school entrance exams, I discovered something while enrolled in a specialist writing program: I loved creating stories. There was something so satisfying about the challenge of turning ideas into tangible words that another person could understand in a way that provoked thought and feeling.
In 2010, while still at school myself, I began teaching at Kumon. Two years later, I started tutoring VCE English. I've never looked back since.
Since then, I have seen hundreds of students through Year 12, many of whom went on to equal my own achievement of DUX (highest score) in English at their respective schools.
I believe the study of English and the path towards a great Study Score is something that is able to be taught, honed through repetition and ultimately mastered in an exam context (with life skills earned along the way). The way we teach is to develop structure, patterns and technique and partner that with mastery over VCAA's marking system to remove the mystery and vagueness associated with VCE English for our students.
And, underneath all of it, a love of language and story.
